HEY THERE.

So I know that I mentioned in my first post that this blog wasn’t going to be all about travel, but since I decided to start it while I am still abroad and travel is such a huge part of my lifestyle right now, its hard to resist a few travel-related posts. Although I have been studying in Florence, Italy during my time here, I have spent a bunch of my weekends traveling to and exploring other cities in Europe. I usually spend 3-4 days in a city on any given weekend (no Friday or Monday classes- woot woot). Perfect amount of time to see a city, super awkward amount of time to pack for. I like to think I have sort of mastered the art of packing to go away for a weekend, and since makeup is one of my favorite things of life, I thought I’d share with you all the essentials that I have been packing in my makeup bag every weekend I have gone away. (This will also serve as a good packing list for me to refer back to, for example this coming weekend when I pack to go to Madrid. WHY do brains turn to mush when it comes time to pack???)

You obviously wouldn’t need to pack the exact products I use, so as I summary, I would suggest these products, and whatever brushes you use to apply them:

  • Foundation/Tinted Moisturizer/BB Cream
  • Concealer
  • Setting Powder
  • Bronzer
  • Blush (versatile for day and night)
  • Highlighter (if you’re into that fleeky cheek highlight)
  • Brow Pencil
  • Shadow Palette (basic and compact, colors for day and night)
  • Eyeliner
  • Mascara
  • Lipstick/Gloss (Again, versatile for day and night. Less is more people).

Stick to the basics, and bring things that have more than one use, or that can be used to explore and to go out at night. If you need to save space, the first place I would suggest eliminating would be brushes/tools. I love my beauty blender as much as the next gal, but makeup is easy enough to apply with your finger tips, especially when its just for a few days. If you want my exact list, here it is:

FACE

Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted moisturizer (shade ‘natural’)- Light coverage tinted moisturizer, perfect for no fuss when traveling and looks super natural. I apply it with my damp beauty blender in the picture.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer (shade ‘light warm’)- I use it to conceal dark circles under my eyes and blend it out with the pointy end of the beauty blender. It has really good coverage and brightens super well.

Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder- I use it to set the concealer underneath my eyes, as well as my t-zone (holla if ya got an oily t-zone). I apply it with the e.l.f. blush brush in the picture. I know it says blush, but the shape is PERFECT for under your eyes.

BRONZER/BLUSH/HIGHLIGHT

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer (shade ‘luminous bronze light’)- Beautiful baked bronzer with a bit of shimmer. I love how glowy and natural it looks. I use the bareMinerals angled face brush to apply it under my cheeks and around my forehead.

Colourpop Super Shock Cheek Satin (shade ‘trickery’)- This blush is so pigmented and pretty! It’s a sort of bright reddish coral and these are awesome because they are only 8 bucks on the website. I use the Japonesque 324 brush to apply it.

the Balm Cosmetics Mary-Lou Manizer Highlighter- The BEST highlighter in the game (I’m sure I will say that about another highlighter in the future, but whatever). I apply it using the Sonia Kashuk no. 129 fan brush.

EYES/BROWS

L’Oreal Brow Stylist Eyebrow Pencil (shade ‘dark brunette’)- Super basic brow pencil with a brush on the end. Gets the job done and lasts all day.

Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette- The compact size is perfect for travel and it has all the colors you need. I bring the dual ended eye shadow brush that came in one of my Naked palettes and a small Sonia Kashuk one BUT, lately I’ve just been really into applying it with my finger tips because it looks so well blended that way. One less thing you have to pack. I use a little of the Naked Skin concealer as a shadow base, and then Cashmere Bunny in the crease, Silk Teddy all over your lid, and mix a little Push-Up and Erotica in the outer corner and your good to go.

Kat Von D Ink Liner (shade ‘trooper’)- Felt tip liner that is really black and really precise. Done.

L’Oreal Voluminous Original Mascara (shade ‘blackest black’)- My fave mascara ever.

LIPS

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip Liquid Lipstick (shade ‘midi’)- A sort of mauve-toned nude matte liquid liptick. The shade is perfect for the day or night, and they are only $6 (< reasons I am falling in love with Colourpop).

So there is the whole list. Hope it all helps!
